Meme: My 5 Least Kudosed Fics

I have this LJ account mostly to post to seasonal spuffy twice a year, but I'm dusting it off because this is way too much fun. The idea is to have a post of you five most and five least kudosed fics. I don't know about the most...they're all stories everyone is probably sick of hearing about, but the five least sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.

1. Words: Explicit, Spike/Buffy. (12) This is on the list probably because it's new, and probably because no one reads my writing for short, angsty ideas about canon, but my muse *really* wanted this. She seized on the idea and wouldn't let go: What is Buffy getting from Spike that keeps her coming back to him over and over in S6? "To feel" is a ridiculous and far too simplistic picture of depression. And what is she feeling? His dick? I don't buy it, so I offered up my own headcanon for how that relationship functioned.

2. Lunch Break: Mature (drug use), gen. fic. Oz and Cordelia friendship. (13) I'm not much of a gen fic writer, though I have some scenes, especially of Willow and Buffy friendship, in larger fics that I really like. This was written as part of a challenge and I actually like how it turned out. There's no way Oz wasn't a stoner, he's a musician in high school in Cali in the late 90s. Like duh. And it'd help with his wolf problem.

Fic: Gem [1/1]
The Scoobies as Oz to transport the Gem of Amara to Angel. He has second thoughts.

Posted here and on AO3 ONLY.

Rating: G
Medium: Fic
Pairing: Gen
Length:: 282 words
Warnings: Major Character Death

Oz looked down at the ring in his hand.

The Gem of Amara.

It made a vampire almost invincible. They couldn’t be staked or burnt. They could walk in sunlight. It sounded like Spike had almost been able to beat Buffy while he’d been wearing it.

Oz slumped in the driver’s seat of his idling van and rolled the ugly ring between his fingers. The Scoobies wanted to give it to Angel.

Buffy, well, Oz could understand. She still loved Angel for whatever mysterious reason woman loved men who hurt them.

It was the Watcher Oz didn’t get. Angel and his slippery soul. If it came detached, then people would die. Giles knew that better than anyone. Handing over invincibility to someone capable of true evil did not sound like the thoughtful actions of a sane individual.

Had Giles been drunk? The apartment had smelt more than a little like booze to Oz’s sensitive nose.

Heaving a sigh, Oz turned off the van’s engine and walked to the roadside stand run by an aging hippie.

“You have any rings?”

Oz handed over the Gem to Angel.

“Buffy wants you to keep it safe. Make sure some vamp like Spike doesn’t get their mitts on it.” Oz shoved his hands in his pockets and smiled thinly.

“Yeah.” Angel leaned on the table, bracing himself on his knuckles. “Yeah. I got it.”

Oz shrugged. “It might be better if even you didn’t know where it was.”

Angel looked at the ring. Just one test, just one, and he’d put it away where no one would ever be able to find it.

He slipped it onto his finger.

And stepped out into the sunlight.

Spuffy Recs for August 2016
I read a lot and have no shame, so I thought maybe I should be pimping the Spuffy stories I like.

Criteria: Spike/Buffy, published/completed in the month listed and 100% done.

Tempus Fugit (Time Flies) by handsomeviolets (T): . Serves as an "extra" episode in S6 and feels like one too. Buffy and co. are facing off against a time-stealing demon that leaves people as younger versions of themselves with no memory. Ripper returns and Spike becomes William. [I seriously <3 William in fics]. Buffy gets to see the man that Spike once was and who still is part of his make up. (15K) AO3

SEE ME by internetname (M): Post Chosen (no AtS S5). Second in a series (read SPEAK ME first). Spike's reward for beating the First is that he spends time in a dreamworld with Buffy. In this installment not only do he and Buffy have some excellent moment healing past events (and some very sexy moments as well) but there's healing for the other Scoobies as well as they are invited into the dreamworld. It's a very beautifully done story and made me cry like a baby. (21K) AO3

Yeah...That Happened by Cryptwarmer (R): An alternate take on the BtVS story in which the show exists, but this is the real story behind the show. Cryptwarmer tweaked characters and ideas and made the world of Buffy her own. Almost every chapter could be it's own stand alone fic. The scope of this story is breathtaking. You also have to put a lot of trust in the author that she's going to see you alright in the end. You also have to give up any and all preconcieved notions before you start so as not to confuse yourself. But the ride is well worth the time and effort. (230K) EF

Memories by Autumn2005 (R): An extremely well writen take on S1 in which Spike, after years of abuse by Angelus who loses his soul much earlier than in canon and not because of Buffy, is dumped on Buffy's front lawn and left for dead. Joyce and Buffy nurse him back to health. At first he cannot remember who he is and comes to love his adopted family. The story is based on the idea of how much of who we are is what we've learned at the hands of others. And you'll love Bill. I promise :-) (95K) EF

Finding His Sun by Loup Noir (NC-17) Set during S5 of Angel it has Spike doing what we all knew he would have as soon as he got that bit of flash in the mail: ditching Angel and Wolfram and Hart to go to Buffy. It's a fun and very sexy reunion fic that allows Buffy and Spike to have the mental, physical, and emotional connections that they deserve. It is a claim fic (why that's so polarizing I'll never know. I love fanon), and is rough on Angel and Giles (catharthis is a good thing).  The smut is great and will totally scratch that Spuffy itch. (28K) EF.

Just a reminder that EF requires you to registered for NC-17 and AO stories. It's not a long or arderous process and well worth your time!

Fic: Stoic Eyes [1/1]
( You are about to view content that may only be appropriate for adults. )

It's A Nice Day
It's A Nice Day

What if Riley recognized Spike's name in Something Blue? A very fluffy retelling of everyone's favorite S4 spell gone wrong. From a challenge prompt at EF by wintersstorm. Written as part of EF's October 2015 Challenge Month.

Rating: PG-13
Medium: Fic
Pairing: Spike/Buffy
Length:: ~8.5K words
Warnings: Minor amount of violence and sexual content. The real warning is this is the very first fic I ever wrote and and I haven't really edited so it's full of newbie mistakes and occasional poor grammar. I'm posting it to make sure I have the LJ format down correctly.

Story under cut.

It's A Nice DayCollapse )

After looking at this for the first time in ages I realized this story, while unpolished, is very much me. There's a ton of stuff I don't do now (jumping viewpoints being the most blatant), but a lot of the concepts have found their way into later things I've written. Stuff like the Scoobies being generally nice, humor, action, Giles walking in on them, and the biggest of course being any strife isn't over the relationship itself. Because they belong together, duh.

Hey- It's Me!
I'm not a great blogger, or journal writer, or diary keeper. So I'm not going to promise anything resembling regular updates or commentary, or anything of that sort.

What I am is a writer (I make no apologies that I mostly write fanfic). My brain has been full of craziness my entire life and I've finally managed to get it out on paper. I used to spend recess on the swings as a child making up stories in my head. Those stories have never gone away. I'm incredibly shocked and thrilled that anyone else would want to share in what goes on in my head. It's weird!

I have had a very diverse life. I've lived in cities and helped pull calves on a Canadian farm. I can probably beat you at Call of Duty multiplayer while discussing the intricacies of symbolism in a any given Shakespeare play.

As a long term ICU nurse I've seen a lot of death, but I'm a mother and gave life to another person.

I like green chilies on my poutine.

I'm a geek- I will probably get your reference ;-)
